PRESS RELEASE - Interest expected from Mid Wales buyers

An eclectic assortment of quality 17th and 18th century furniture and some local Radnorshire prints will go under the hammer at McCartneys Auction House in Ludlow on Friday, April 20th.

The estate of a born and bred Llandrindod Wells doctor, whose father was also a founder member of the Radnorshire Society, includes a 17th century map of the area by Robert Morden and a rare book on the general history of Radnorshire by Rev Jonathan Williams.

Daniel Fielder, Fine Art Expert at McCartneys said “We expect interest from the Mid Wales area as there are items which have a local association.”

Other lots from the estate include a watercolour by noted artist John Varley 1772- 1848 and a signed etching by Samuel Palmer. Furniture from the estate includes a 17th century oak carved coffer, a George IV mahogany worktable, a late George III mahogany Pembroke table and an 18th century oak and mahogany banded chest.

Some of the more special items include a George III mahogany cheese coaster on brass castors and an early 18th Century walnut looking glass.

Daniel added “There are some individual quality pieces and I would urge people to look at our website for further details of the lots.”

Other items for sale include ceramics, rugs and jewellery. Viewing takes place on Thursday 19th of April and Friday 20th April before the sale. The catalogue will be online on Wednesday 18th of April at www.mccartneys.co.uk. For further information contact Joy Hughes on 01584 872251.
